Restoring the Photos

There were 55 pages in the original commemorative book. I took photos of each page, before my dad and I donated the book to the Arizona Commemorative Air Force Museum, in Mesa AZ. After 80 years, all of the pages were yellowed and the text was fairly difficult to read. To give you an idea of my restoration process, below, is one of the photos of the original pages, next to the restored page.

 

I've also included two enlargements from the original page. Now we have the tools to enlarge these photos, but during WWII, the photo interpreters used stereoscopes and magnifying glasses to determine the targets and the bombing results summarized in their reports to Allied Command.
